in the kevin collins case. san francisco police are investigateing the 1984 disappearance of the 10-year- old boy visited his mother's home tonight. ktvu's rita williams is live in contra costa county and tells us the investigators had photos they showed to family members, rita. >> reporter: that's right julie. about 7:30 tonight, san francisco police left the concord apartment here that belongs to anne collins, kevin collin's mother. as you see in these exclusive pictures three invest investigators from the san francisco police department isn't several hours tonight talking to kevin collin's mother, two of his sisters and a brother. we know police showed them this picture of the lead suspect dan therrien who died in 1978. they also showed them what he looked like in 1974, when witnesses say they saw kevin talking to a man with a big black dog. >> i am convinced that the investigation is going in the right direction. >> reporter: that direction led them last week to dig up the concrete floor of the garage of this house on masonic where therrien lived. two different cadaver dogs alerted at the
in the investigation into the 1984 disappearance of kevin collins. san francisco police are holding a news conference this afternoon that could center on this man, dan kelly, a "person of interest" in the case who died five years ago. the boy was seen leaving school in the haight-ashbury in february of 1984. he was ten. the suspect lived across the street from the school. at the time the police searched his home but did not find anything. last week, as we first reported police returned with dogs and found small bone fragments in the basement which have been sent to a laboratory for analysis. our reporter will have more on the case in a live report in the next half hour. >> police are planning a news conference today in fairfield over the investigation of a murder of a 13-year-old girl. they have identified the body of the teen last week. the 13-year-old showed this surveillance video in fairfield on thursday afternoon at corner of grand circle four miles from the park where her naked body was discovered on friday morning. in word of any arrests in the case so far. her cousin is planning a vigil at th

developments this morning in the nearly three decade old disappearance of kevin collins. we have learned the name of a key figure in the case and why police are hoping it will bring an end to this long investigation. he was just ten years old when he disappeared almost 29 years ago. last seen at a bus stop in san francisco. sergio quintana says the main person of interest in the disappearance had a rap sheet that included kidnapping. >> we were the first on the scene on tuesday when police took jack hammers into the home. our source says that is where dan lived. those sources says he went by the name kelly. he was questioned by police after kevin collins disappeared and they never searched his backyard or basement at the time. but investigators returned to the home this week and tore ust the basement floor looking for evidence. the home is across street his old school. our sources say he had a dog. the lead investigator in this cold case told abc7 reporter vic lee a key detail of what two witnesses saw way back in 1984. >> we had another adult witness telling they saw kevin in front of 1
evidence if a 1984 disappearance of kevin collins, investigators have released these two to toes of the man identified at wayne jackson but he used a number of fake names including dan therrien the name he was using when he died in 1988. jackson had a history of child molestation including the sexual assault of two kids in canada. he got out of prison in 1984, the same year that kevin collins was abducted at age ten. he lived a block away from where collins disappeared. >> the individual with five names that now we know had a history of molesting young boys, he should haven a much stronger suspect. authorities dug up the garage on masonic and found what appears to be animal bones that are tested in analyzed. >> fairfield police are asking for your help in the killer of a 13-year-old, the guardian also reported her missing last thursday evening. the girl's naked body was found friday morning at the park. investigators say an autopsy confirmed she was killed. they will not say how. police are also not releasing any information of possible suspects or suspicious vehicles. a surveillance video

information on the prime suspect. in the kidnapping of kevin collins. the san francisco abduction made national headlines in 19-84. just hours ago, kron4's maureen kelly spoke the man's former employer. >> reporter: dan therrien.who you see in the dmv photo.which kron4 first brought to light last week.was better known as kelly to the people at this south san francisco custom furnishing business. his longtime partner.jack chow.which you see here.worked there for close to eight years.and therrien did some contract painting work for them occasionally. the owner of the business.who didn't want to go on camera was shocked to hear that the home the couple shared in the 80's had been searched last week by cadaver dogs and sfpd cold case investigators in connection to the kevin collins disappearance. she says that the man she knew was very nice and friendly.and that therrien and chow were very much in love.a happy couple who did everything together.having been partners more than 30 years. she said therrien worked from the sunset district home that he and chow moved to in 1997. that's where the
